CANADIAN COMMITTEE ON ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE
APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Vancouver, B.C. May 24, 2006 For immediate release The Canadian Committee on Antibiotic Resistance (CCAR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane McIvor as Executive Director effective May 1, 2006.

Jane brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in association management as well as a solid understanding of project management, finance and operations, said Chair of the Board of Directors Dr. John Conly, Professor of Medicine at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary. Her experience with not-for-profit associations will be well applied to CCAR and we look forward to her unique perspective on issues and initiatives currently being addressed by the Association.

With over 15 years of association management and project management experience, Ms. McIvor holds a Bachelor of Arts (International Relations) degree from the University of British Columbia.

In welcoming Ms. McIvor, the CCAR board and the Government of Canada expressed great appreciation for the work of her predecessor, Rick Walter, Executive Director of CCAR for the past eight years. Rick was a key driving force behind CCAR. His knowledge of the industry, the issues and the people were a great benefit and allowed CCAR to accomplish many of its goals outlined in the National Action Plan to Address Antibiotic Resistance, said Dr. Conly.

Ricks contribution to the issues surrounding antibiotic resistance was felt on many levels, noted Shirley Paton, A/Director, Bld Safety Surveillance & Health Care Acquired Infections, Centre for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control, Public Health Agency of Canada. In addition to steering the initiatives of CCAR, he was instrumental in providing input and guidance on key policies developed by the Government of Canada.

CCAR advocates for, facilitates and promotes programs related to surveillance, optimal antimicrobial use and infection prevention and control to limit antimicrobial resistance. CCAR was incorporated under the Canada Incorporations Act on June 28, 2004. Membership is made up of public sector and not-for-profit private sector organizations.
