It is generally accepted that the therapeutic use of antimicrobials in animals should be prescribed by licensed veterinarians where a valid veterinary-client-patient relationship exists; that antimicrobial agents should not be used as a substitute for good animal husbandry; and that producers be encouraged to adopt production practices to reduce reliance on antimicrobial agents.
