The animal production sector shares with other sectors the responsibility providing safe and wholesome food for human consumption. Among other things, this sector must ensure that animals are healthy and are not a reservoir for antimicrobial-resistant bacteria. Food safety and the management of potential public health risks are integral parts of the food-chain. Many animal production organizations have or are developing quality assurance programs which are designed to minimize disease transmission and promote a safe food supply. For more information on the various initiatives you may contact the organizations directly.
